Educating Illinois 2008-2014 Developmental Timeline

  • September 2006 - President Bowman charged the University during his State of the University Address to begin planning the next phase of Educating Illinois. President Bowman appointed a Task Force that represented each of the vice presidential divisions, colleges, and governing bodies.
  • December 2006 - The Task Force convenes.
  • Winter 2006/Spring 2007- The Task Force held discussion forums with 25 groups that included faculty, staff, students, governance groups, and alumni that helped identify issues pertaining to the University's strengths, challenges, and opportunities.
  • Spring 2007 - An environmental scan was developed that focused on demographics and state financial issues as well as policy interests that directly or indirectly affect the planning processes at the University.
  • Spring/Summer 2007 - The Task Force met with representatives of various University offices to gain additional information and perspective on a number of issues identified through discussion forum sessions and the environmental scan: facilities, diversity, enrollment, graduate education and research, and technology.
  • November 2007 - The Task Force released a Draft to the University community for review and input.
  • Spring 2008 - The Task Force made revisions to the draft document based upon input received and released the final document to the University community for endorsement.
  • April/May 2008 - The University governance groups - Academic Senate, Administrative/Professional Council, Civil Service Council, Student Government Association - endorsed the plan.
  • May 9, 2008 - The Illinois State University Board of Trustees endorsed Educating Illinois 2008-2014: Priorities for Illinois' First Public University.
